GUIDE: FOOLY COOLY

A note that you must take into account: Medical Mechanica has imprisoned Atomsk, the pirate king, an entity capable of stealing entire star systems by the way of N.O. powers. Haruhara Haruko came to Earth (she's an alien) to try to free Atomsk from the Medical Mechanica plant and must use Naota's head as a channel. The only way to activate such a channel is by trauma to the head.

Naota and Mamimi chilling under the bridge.Fooly Cooly takes place in the town of Mabase where a new Medical Mechanica plant is located. The series opens up with Mamimi Samejima and Naota Nandaba under a bridge beside the river conversing about homework and baseball. Naota seems a bit stressed out about his homework and a bit annoyed about Mamimi's persistant questioning as well. I pretend that this is Amelia and me. :D Mamimi seems very content and then proceeds to grope and nibble on Naota's earlobes. Naota isn't freaked out or anything, suggesting that it probably happens from time to time, and then asks Mamimi why she does it. Mamimi claims that if she doesn't do it, she'll "overflow." Perhaps "something amazing" will happen.

It then cuts to Naota's voice saying that "nothing amazing happens here, everything is ordinary," when describing his town. Medical Mechanica and its smoke.. He talks a little about the Medical Mechanica plant that spews steams periodically that covers part of the town. Naota suggests that the steam is kind of like "smoke that signifies some kind of omen, smoke that billows out and covers everything" - perhaps hinting at his own unfortunate turn of events coming up very soon.

Is it soda or pop?Naota and Mamimi are now walking along the street together. Mamimi purchases a soda (with Naota's money it seems) and takes a drink from it before handing it to Naota. Naota takes it but refuses to drink it saying "I don't like sour drinks." Although it seems insignificant, it becomes a theme throughout the series. Mamimi begins to leave and Naota then throws the drink onto the sidewalk. He starts to talk about his brother Tasuku, who is in America playing ball, to get Mamimi's attention. But before he can continue, a noise down the street seems to be getting louder and louder as it approaches towards Naota.

I'm sure it's very painful. VROOOOM!! "Alright, lunch time!" proclaims Haruko Haruhara as she comes speeding down on her yellow Vespa. Mamimi, the photographer She hits Naota with her Vespa while Mamimi stands in the background taking pictures of the whole ordeal with her camera. Naota wakes up with Haruko's everlasting "CPR" which appears more to be a really long kiss. The kiss of healing.. After confirming that Naota is indeed alive, she hits him across the head, but this time with her Rickenbacker, motor-driven bass guitar. Naota now has a huge bruise on his head, but seeing that nothing else is going to appear, Haruko yells "You are totally useless!" and speeds off into the distance. Mamimi and Naota are in a complete befuddlement.

He's pretty horny.. Back at his house, Naota sees the extent of the damage caused by Haruko - a horn is now pretruding from his head (it's actually a robot's finger). The next day at school, Naota's classmates start talking about the "Vespa Woman" who "stings" people that has been doing naughty things. His classmates start teasing him about the bandage on his head. It cuts to Naota's voice saying that "nothing amazing happens here, everything is ordinary."

She looks like a possessed doll. After school, Naota decides to go to the hospital and sees "Vespa Woman" at the train crosswalk. As she babbles on, Naota runs off. She temporarily loses him. In the hospital, Naota lays down on the bed as the nurse treats him. The nurse is actually Haruko who again tries to smack him across the head with her guitar. (She looks super freaky in this, which is totally wicked sweet.) Naota manages to escape, but when he arrives home, guess what! Haruko is there! She ran over Kamon (Naota's dad) as well and now works as a live-in housekeeper to the Nandaba family as a repayment of some sort. Perfect for Haruko who wants to stay and monitor Naota's head.

Anyway, in the middle of the chaos between Haruko Haruhara and Naota, Kamon describes Naota's actions with Mamimi: "Fondling around, fooling around.. Fooly Cooly!" Kamon then asks "what's fooly cooly?" Naota says that he has no idea what it means. How everyone describes it, it seems that fooly cooly means fondling of "cupcakes" or "yum yumms" or in other words, boobs.

Naota takes a bath and when he arrives to his room, Haruko is there. Naota's a bit ticked off and asks Haruko who she really is. Haruko says that she's just a "wandering housekeeper" but eventually admits that she's an alien. Naota's frickin' out! Naota doesn't seem to believe it and retorts that she must "also [be] a nurse" sarcastically. Things seem to get a bit heated as Haruko pressures Naota into telling her what's happening under the bandaid. Anyway, Naota gets ready to sleep and tells Haruko that the top bunk is his brother's so no one can sleep there. Having no place to sleep, Haruko hops into bed with Naota (score!) and Naota gets really uncomfortable. Instead of sleeping next to a "frickin' hot chick" as some fans call Haruko, Naota opts to sleep downstairs where he meets his dad.

They talk about Haruko and if it's alright if she stays. Naota doesn't care and says for his dad to do whatever he wants. Kamon is obviously delighted and then shows Naota some pictures of him getting run over. Naota immediately knows that Mamimi was here (she was the one that took the pictures) and Kamon replies that she came in earlier to buy some bread. They talk about Mamimi and her family and then Naota dashes off to the bridge to find Mamimi (not sure why, but I think to see if she's okay).

When he arrives, Mamimi is smoking a cigarette and appears homeless. They talked about a bit about Tasuku (Naota's big brother, he has an American girlfriend now). Mamimi then begins to grope Naota again...

A couple seconds later, four important things happen:

  • Mamimi jumps back and says she's going to "overflow" which eventually renders his unconscious.
  • Back at the house, Haruko's bracelet (which reacts to the powers of Atomsk) begins to jiggle so she races on over to the bridge on her Vespa.
  • The Medical Mechanica plant begins to "activate" or "steam up and make siren noises (happens each time Naota gets a robot out of his head)."
  • Naota's horn gets much, much bigger and two robots emerge from it.

Atomsk's symbol on Kanti's red head. A huge red (red because Atomsk's power is in it) robot named Kanti emerges and part of another robot (only the hand of another robot, because Kanti rips it off before it can fully come out; it's trying to prevent Kanti with Atomsk inside of it from escaping) begins to duke it out with Naota stuck on Kanti. Kanti is laying down the law unforgivingly and destroys the other robot.

Kanti rips out the other robot's wires out. Haruko finally arrives (note: badass style) and smacks Kanti in the back of the head. His color begins to fade from red to blue. I belive this part marks when Atomsk's power is now channeled between both Kanti and Naota and can only be activated when Kanti and Naota merges as one (you'll understand in the later episodes) because when they merge together, Kanti turns red again.

That concludes it, still confused? Basically, it's the introduction of all the characters especially Haruko and the beginning of robot galore!
